Over thirty years ago, my husband and I moved to Loveland, Colorado. When we celebrated our first Valentine’s Day in the “Sweetheart City”, we began to realize how much February 14th means to our hometown. In 2009, I got to experience first hand what it was like to be a part of Loveland’s traditions. Here is the story of how Valentine’s Day in Loveland, Colorado brought me my 15 minutes of fame.
An example of the deliberate version is when, upon retiring for the evening, you tell yourself (with feeling and conviction) you want to dream the solution to a particular problem. If you get lucky (back to fortuitous), you will. If you do this repeatedly — program yourself with a problem — you will start to dream solutions regularly.
We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the office renovation company. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had.
There are activities which you can do in groups. You can play word association games. The game will usually have a context — the idea you’d like to explore. Start with a list of words which relate to your central idea, and free associate. Speed matters in this process, so record these games on audio tape. Another version is to use one of those magnetic poetry kits. Give people the kits and let them go to work. Also, you can mind-map in groups. Or gather a bunch of great images on a projector and let your group play off them.
If you see that with all the repairs and clean up that you do both inside and outside of your home would accumulate a lot of garbage, arrange for extra garbage collection. You would still need to do a final clean up as you do your final walk through on the day of your move, unless you plan on coming back for another day to do the final clean up (this is not a bad idea especially if you are not moving too far away).
Fear of facing problems – if you put off calling the doctor how can he tell you what might be wrong? The automobile oil needs changing, but you are not sure you know how to change it. Your tire is leaking air, but the can of Stop Leak you bought for just a few dollars seemed to do the trick. The procrastinator is thinking, “Why should I go spend money on a new tire? If I go buy a tire, that really means two tires and then I will need the other two tires rotated”.
Bonus Tip – Cheating – Well, it’s not really cheating, it’s using every weapon at your disposal. There is an ever growing marketplace dealing with supplements and vitamins to assist you in reaching your goals. Most recently a study done at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania highlighted the benefits of green (unroasted) coffee beans for weight loss. The study suggested that a component in unroasted coffee beans, chlorogenic acid, promotes weight loss and prevents fat retention even without dieting. If good diet and exercise are mixed in, the results are even better. Do NOT start taking a hundred different products. Use one or two, make sure they are safe and vouched for by reputable studies, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions and contraindications.
Each other should share offline and online special fun times. Online – send greeting cards, links to favorite places to upload digital photos of your favorite pet, download music and video clips, post on favorite forums of interest. Offline- if you’re exchanging addresses or post office boxes, send print greeting cards and postcards, small items from your area (like a key chain with your state bird).
